WGT Victorian Picnic Part 1
I don't think it comes as a surprise that Viona's Victorian Picnic in the Clara Zetkin Park is our favourite WGT event. Held on Friday, for many the first day at the festival, the picnic showcases the best of what alternative fashion has to offer.
It seems the weather gods appreciate this opulent event, as we have never experienced bad weather the three times we have attended the picnic. Although some of the costumes seemed a bit warm in the sun and heat, I think everyone dressed in huge gowns with long trains appreciates the lack of rain.
The attendance seemed to be higher than ever, crushing the rumours that alternative style is on it's way out. There's just something about Germany! I can't think of any country in the world where goth, victorian and steampunk is more popular. It warms this DraculaClothing owner's heart to see people make such an effort.
Many people are wondering what happens at this picnic. Do you need to bring a picnic basket, do you need to dress victorian? Well no, you don't. No one will kick you out of a public park if you don't follow the dress code, and with the enormous amounts of photogs dressed in jeans and curious bystanders out on their friday afternoon walk, there is just no way to enforce the dress code. It is highly appreciated, though! And the more extravagant your attire is, the more attention you will get. There is no "over the top" here! Bring a full set of dining chairs and a table if you can! It is far from unheard of here, and it is absolutely wonderful! It doesn't come as a surprise that this event has turned in to what must be the most photographed happening at WGT.
Thank you for yet another amazing picnic, Viona. Only 360 days until next time!
